The evolution of BIM: from foundations to future prospects
CSCE Montreal Section Conference
The CSCE Montreal Section is delighted to invite you to a high-level technical presentation on Building Information Modeling (BIM), a revolutionary technology that is transforming the landscape of civil engineering and the construction industry. This conference, to be held on September 21, 2023 at ÉTS, will highlight the challenges of integrating BIM into the civil engineering field.
We will be privileged to welcome Mr. Erik Poirier, Director of buildingSMART Canada, who is one of Quebec's leading BIM experts. Mr. Poirier will share his in-depth knowledge of the evolution of BIM, its practical applications and the specific issues involved in integrating it into the civil engineering sector.
CSCE Technical Conference
BIM, or Building Information Modeling, is an innovative approach that is revolutionizing the way construction projects are designed, planned and executed. This technology enables closer collaboration between all project stakeholders, improving efficiency, quality and sustainability. The presentation will explore the latest advances in BIM, its impact on our ever-evolving sector, and the challenges faced by civil engineering professionals when integrating it.
About the presenter
Erik Poirier is a leading expert on Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the field of civil engineering. He earned a PhD in Construction Engineering Technologies from École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) in 2015 and has a strong academic background in architecture. In addition to his role as professor at ÉTS, Erik holds high-profile positions, including Chair of the ISO TC59/SC13 Mirror Committee at the Standards Council of Canada since 2021 and Director of buildingSMART Canada since 2015. His expertise and research on the impact of BIM on construction productivity have made him a key player in the industry.
In parallel with his academic and institutional career, Erik Poirier has contributed to major projects, including the Royal Alberta Museum, and published leading scientific articles on BIM.
